On January 8th, Willowdale kicks off an exciting new book club called: One School, One Book. Thanks to the generosity of our PTO, every family is receiving a copy of the same book: The World According to Humphrey by Betty Birney.

With the One School, One Book program, we strive to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone (students, parents, teachers, and staff) will be participating and we can all benefit!

Families will be asked to read about 15 minutes per night (**see Calendar document below). Weekends are left open in case families need to use those days to catch up. In school, we will share daily trivia questions over the announcements. Teachers will have their own "Humphrey" in each classroom with special experiences for students to take part in. Below, you will find the suggested reading calendar, parent letter that includes our contest form, as well as other activities you can choose to take part in as a family.

We can’t wait to hear our school community talking about Humphrey! With your help, we can build a community of readers at Willowdale.

Happy Reading!

Ideas For Some Fun with Humphrey at Home

1.  Take a picture of your family reading Humphrey.  Send in a picture to be displayed at school or email the picture to your child's teacher for the display.

2. Build a fun maze for a hamster (a human hamster) to crawl through! Use things you have around the house and be creative! 3.  Create your own booklet of tips for the care and feeding of hamsters. Be sure to bring it to school to share with us! 4.  Have an "unplugged night" just like A. J.'s family had in Chapter 11. 5.  Humphrey snack night.  Have your child choose a snack fit for Humphrey for an afternoon snack. 6. Visit Humphreyville at http://www.bettybirney.com/humphreyville.html. At this site your child can send an e-postcard to a friend or try out some of the “Games According to Humphrey.” 7. Have your child write his or her own Humphrey adventure or write one together as a family. Share at school!
